Galway’s budding Charlie Birds will have a chance to hone their skills at a Practical Journalistic Writing Skills course to be held at Galway Community College this autumn. The course is accredited by the Irish Academy of Public Relations, and students can expect to get a good grounding in the basic theory and practice of journalism. The Certificate course will be taught part-time over a ten-week duration.
Director of the Irish Academy of Public Relations, Ellen Gunning, said: “This course is designed for people who are curious about journalism, who want to contribute occasional freelance articles to their local paper, or who already write for newsletters or parish magazines and want to learn more about the tricks of the trade. This is the first time that the course has been offered in the county and already there is great interest in it.” Successful graduates of this course are eligible to continue their journalism studies with the Academy at GMIT where they offer courses from Certificate to Post-graduate Diploma levels.
