Galway building company Maveric Contractors has shattered stereotypes of builders by winning a Golden Spider award for its website.

The award for 'Best Professional Services Website' at this year's Golden Spiders was presented at an event in Dublin's Burlington Hotel, hosted by celebrities Jason Byrne and Glenda Gilson. Over 700 representatives of the Irish online community were in attendance.

Maveric Contractors came out on top of the Professional Services Website category, which was sponsored by Eircom and Magill Publications. Maveric beat off competition from five other nominees from several high profile companies from around Ireland. The site features graphical animations which explain the different stages the company goes through during the construction process. There are galleries of different images, as well as videos of work completed.

When it comes to technology, Maveric has always been far ahead of its competitors. On site the company is using specialised IT contractors to move from paper based to electronic based systems. Employees are now using laptops to exchange information, which is then emailed to head offices. Workers on site many different systems to relay information and in the main office, managers can pinpoint the exact location of all machines and jeeps to ascertain if they are working to full capacity, with a specialised piece of software. Maveric has pioneered the use of GPS technology that help clients to save money and save time by being as efficient as possible with machinery.

The site, www.mavericcontractors.com, won praise for the innovative use of graphics, photography, video, and animated graphics to help viewers understand how the company works.

This is not the first time the company has been awarded ? it has already won several awards for health and safety from NISO and other bodies.

"We're delighted with this award," said Philip McNamara, Marketing Manager. "We've put a lot of effort into creating a site that helps people to understand how our company works. We have tried to make it as user friendly as possible, and this award is a great acknowledgment of the work of our web designer, Cilian O'Mongan." The site is available in three languages, Spanish, Polish and Portuguese, which reflects the nature of the Irish construction business today.
