Galway best of West for broadband E-mail

County Galway had the highest broadband penetration in the BMW region, with 17.1 per cent, while the city has a penetration of 31.6 per cent, as high as some areas in Dublin and higher by far than Limerick and Cork.

That’s according to an online survey of broadband access in Ireland for State of the Net, an ebusiness magazine.

The online journal conducted a survey of broadband access in Ireland for its latest edition and found that there is a huge divide in access to this essential business tool. According to State of the Net, which is published by amas.ie, the ‘haves’ and the ‘have-nots’ are now marked out by their ability to access broadband, with the West in by far a worse position than the majority of the Eastern counties.

According to the survey, the remainder of Connacht and, in particular, the North-West is losing out on broadband, with less than ten per cent having broadband access in Leitrim, Roscommon, and Donegal. While most of the East coast had relatively good coverage, Wexford’s rate was similar to that in the North West, and midlands counties Longford and Cavan also fared poorly.
