Gaillimh le Gaeilge, the organisation for promoting Irish in business, yesterday announced the finalists of the Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2007. Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh is an award that seeks to recognise companies and organisations that have incorporated the use of the Irish language into their daily business, and by doing so, have contributed to the promotion of Galway as a 'Bilingual City', and the sustainability of Galway's most important cultural and economic resource. The award features two different categories; companies with less than twenty employees and companies with more than 20 employees. In the first category, the finalists were; Corrib Removals and Storage, Hession Life and Pensions, Lohans Bar and Restaurant, and Orla Murray Financial Services. In the second category, the finalists were; Galway Taxis and The Malt House. The judging panel, comprised of: Máire Ní Mhulláin, Communications and Irish Language Officer, Galway City Council; Karen Smyth, Aran Direct/Caoldíreach go hárainn – winners of Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2006; Pádraic Ó Ráighne, Marketing Executive, TG4, and; Nóirín D'Arcy, Darcy Marketing, were impressed with the high standard on offer this year. The six companies selected stood out because of the detailed information provided on their bilingual business and it was also very evident that the Irish language has an important role within their businesses as well as in the future development of their businesses. This year Gaillimh le Gaeilge with the assistance of the Galway City and County Enterprise Board developed 'Séala Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh' a quality mark and a symbol of excellence in bilingualism for the overall winners – to be displayed on their stationery, brochures and websites after their win. The winner will also receive fantastic prizes and benefits to the value of €15,000. This year also marks an important milestone with the celebration of Gaillimh Le Gaeilge's 21st year in business. Minister éamon Ó Cuív will present the winner with the Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh Award in the Ardilaun House Hotel on Thursday, 28 February 2008. The Award itself, Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh, is a bronze sculpture by the renowned artist Pádraic Reaney, depicting the 14 Tribes of Galway, with one additional Tribe signifying the winner of the Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh. Gaillimh le Gaeilge wish to thank all the businesses that participated in the Award and also for their continuous work in promoting Galway city as a Bilingual City. Congratulations to the finalists on reaching this stage, and we wish them the very best of luck in the final. Go n-éirí go geal libh!
