A briefing session for businesses on compliance with employment law will take place today, Wednesday 25 June, at the Westwood House Hotel, Galway. IBEC West Regional Director John Brennan said the briefing, which is being hosted by IBEC between 10am and 11.30am, would be of great interest to Galway businesses as it tackles a subject that is becoming increasingly challenging. "Business compliance with employment law is increasingly challenging and it is vital that all companies are fully aware of their obligations and responsibilities. Legislation regarding maximum working time, work permits and employee entitlements is increasingly complex. In 2007, National Employment Rights Authority (NERA) inspectors carried out over 14,000 inspections of companies. Businesses in the region are now more likely to be audited because of the appointment of additional labour inspectors. "I would encourage employers and members of the business community to attend this event. The briefing will highlight how to comply with employment law and how to avoid potentially expensive legal fees and fines. You will also learn about the implications of NERA for your company and what documents should be made available as part of a NERA inspection. "With wide-ranging experience in employment law, industrial relations and human resources, IBEC is uniquely positioned to provide you with the best advice available. This event is open to all and is being offered free to our many members in the West," Mr Brennan concluded. |
