People in disadvantaged communities are being asked to make suggestions
on how community development can best tackle exclusion, poverty and
disadvantage.
The public consultation process, which was launched by Minister of
State Pat Carey TD, will take place under the National Development
Plan, which envisages the continuation of support for the Community
Development Programme. The Programme provides multi-annual funding to
approximately 180 designated community development projects and
organisations focussing on communities experiencing social and economic
disadvantage. "The rising tide has not necessarily lifted all boats," said Minister Carey, "and it is my desire to provide communities with continued support which is focused on making a real difference. I would welcome the views of the public and other groups and organisations on how we might continue to improve delivery of such services."
