Fáilte Ireland West is, this week, leading a Connemara trade delegation to Paris, to launch a new feature length film '2 jours à tuer', which showcases the beauty and splendour of the Connemara region. The week started with the premiere of the film on the Avenue des Champs Elyseés, Paris, on Monday 21 April, and will be followed by a French trade and media lunch, hosted by Fáilte Ireland, at the Irish Embassy. The film premiere in Paris marks the start of a dedicated Connemara marketing campaign, which will be launched next month. The film '2 jours a tuer' ('2 days to kill') was directed by well-known French director Jean Becker, and will open in France at the end of April. While it has only been produced in the French language, if successful, an English language version will be developed and distributed elsewhere. The movie was filmed in Connemara in April 2007, during two of the finest weeks of the year, and the glorious natural landscape of the famous Connemara region was shown at its best. In light of the potential to increase the profile of Connemara, already a strong brand in France, Fáilte Ireland committed funding to ensure that Connemara was chosen as the film location in Ireland. The story follows 42-year-old Antoine Méliot, who has everything to live for; a beautiful wife, two adorable children, loyal friends, a beautiful house in the suburbs of Paris, a great job and affluence. Suddenly and without explanation his behaviour changes radically, and he walks out on his family and travels to Connemara to visit his estranged father, who has been living there for over 15 years. The two men spend time here fishing together and the traditional culture of the region is showcased, fitting in appropriately with Failte Ireland West's strategic objective of enhancing the cultural experience of visitors to the West and building on the outdoor and adventure brand the region has firmly established. Speaking at the screening of the film, Brian F Quinn, Acting General Manager of Fáilte Ireland West, said "We are delighted to be involved in this promotion of the Connemara brand in Europe. We see this film as a golden opportunity for us to showcase Connemara in one of our biggest overseas markets and believe it will result in strengthening further the Connemara brand in Europe." |
