Since it opened in late November, Galway's newest dry cleaning service Call Jeeves has developed into one of the Galway's most promising businesses.

2701Call Jeeves is a dry cleaning and laundry service with a difference. Drivers collect the clothes to be dry cleaned or laundered from the customer's place or work or from a local store and return them to them. It's a business all about convenience.

John Corcoran and Donal Callanan, the founders of Call Jeeves, explain how it came about. "One thing that struck us is how inconvenient the whole dry cleaning industry was here in Ireland. I thought the industry hadn't really moved on. I noticed three things: people are very time pressed; dry cleaning outlets are generally located in retail centres where parking is difficult and the pricing structure didn't represent that this was something that people needed to get done on a regular basis. It shouldn't be regarded as a luxury to have your clothes cleaned and refreshed."

The business identified three areas to focus on: convenience, simplified pricing and presentation. How could they make it more convenient for people? John says, "If people could simply have their dry cleaning collected at their workplace and delivered back there 48 hours later, it would remove much of the hassle from the whole process for them.

"We also started focusing on teaming up with convenience stores, where people could drop off and collect their laundry or dry cleaning. And as well as that we will soon be launching a home pick-up and delivery service." Today, the business picks up laundry or dry cleaning within 30 miles of their HQ in Oranmore.

Not only does their state-of-the-art facility comply with the new EU directives, the garment covers in which the clothes are returned are designed to be reusable.

"People throughout Galway can either go to our website www.calljeeves.ie or ring us on 091-790079, and we will come and pick up their items," says

"Our pricing is simple: the same price per item, irrespective of size, length or material type."

Call Jeeves, in addition to collecting from peoples place of work, now also collect laundry and dry cleaning at participating convenience stores. The stores are located in Carnmore, Craughwell, Moycullen, Ballybrit and in Mervue.

Four people now work for Call Jeeves. Donal manages the operation in Oranmore and both he and John do the collections and returns. However, a new driver is due to join as the business starts to grow.

Donal adds, "We currently have around 30 workplaces participating, ranging from offices to large facilities, and are adding about five a week. I thought creating a brand and a profile would be a lot slower, but the process has been quite quick. Our advertising campaign and the subsequent word of mouth has really got the convenience of Call Jeeves out there."

Call Jeeves also uses text messages as a ticketing service. Customers receive messages informing them that their items have arrived at the cleaning depot in Oranmore and are told, again by text, when the item will be delivered back to their workplace or participating convenience store.

It's going very well so far and the success looks set to continue.
