Galway Volunteer Centre is inviting businesses to take part in 'Give it a Swirl Day', Ireland's national day of volunteering. Teams of volunteers from different companies are needed to get involved in 'hands on' once-off volunteer projects all around the country on Friday26 September. "We have already identified a number of projects from community and voluntary organisations to be hosted on the day and we are looking for teams of volunteers from businesses to carry out the work," said Ruth Fagan, Volunteer Liaison Officer with the GVC. " Examples of some projects include landscaping, carpentry work, painting a shop premises and a clean up of school grounds. Businesses interested in giving some time on the day can do so as part of a team building initiative within their own company. "It is a great way for companies to develop stronger links with the community and amongst their own staff," said Ruth. Anyone interested in taking part can find out more by contacting Galway Volunteer centre on 091-539930 or by checking out the GVC website at www.volunteergalway.ie. Galway Volunteer Centre is a one-stop shop for voluntary activity, providing volunteering opportunities for the public, sourcing much needed volunteers for organisations and providing support for organisations in managing volunteers. The centre is part of a growing national network of centres and serves both Galway City and County. In less than two years, almost 1,000 people have contacted the GVC wanting to volunteer. Galway Volunteer is the fulfilment of the hard work of volunteers and voluntary organisations working with and has been funded by the Department of Community Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Galway City and County Councils, and Galway Rural Development. |
