Barbershop Proprietor David Gallagher realised early on that his business would have to have the 'edge' on other barbershops if he was to set himself apart. 'The Edge' barbershop and gents hairdressing salon located on the ground floor of the Eyre Square Shopping Centre is edgy by name as well as nature.

Gallagher has created a salon that is a 'one-stop-shop' for men's hairdressing needs, seamlessly combining gents cutting and colouring requirements under one roof. And the proof is in the pudding; in two short years, Gallagher has established a stable client-base of the young and 'young at heart', ranging from the teenager to the older gentleman.

The salon is staffed by four top stylists, including salon manageress, Amanda Murphy, who has 15 years experience as a colourist and hair stylist in the hairdressing industry. Amanda's friendly and bubbly personality sits perfectly in this comfortable and professional environment, putting customers at their ease, safe in the knowledge that their tresses are in safe hands.

The Edge specialises in the latest and most up-to-date cuts and colours. Using Wella hair products, they provide all types of colour treatment, from permanent colouring, mesh and cap highlights to crazy colouring. Metallic Blue and Chilli Red are just two examples!

"The gents industry has changed a lot over the years, so it is important that we provide a wide variety of styles to suit our clientele. It is essential that our customers realise that we are there to offer them the best service possible," says Amanda.

Douglas Wallace meanwhile has designed a stylish and modern salon that is quintessentially male. The salon is fitted out floor to ceiling in mirrors, with black tiles, soft black leather seating and flat plasma screens. This provides the perfect backdrop for the chrome and steel wall fixtures, giving the salon a professional yet relaxed feel.

"There is just such a relaxed atmosphere to the shop; the black couches and the flat screens mean that people almost forget that they are there to get their hair cut or coloured," says David. However, 'The Edge' doesn't stop at hair. Men can also receive a relaxing hot towel shave at the salon. For this, The Edge uses American Crew products, which is considered to be one of the best ranges on the market right now. A wide and varied selection of gels and waxes, which are used in the salon, are also available at reasonable prices.
