Finn's Furniture fits the bill, ticks all the right boxes and gives a fully furnished service with a friendly face. The family-run business, with stores in Gort, Loughrea and Portumna is run "the old-fashioned way", according to Mike Finn, Co-owner and Manager of the shops. "There is no pushing for targets or pressurising customers to buy from us; anyone can come in and browse around in peace. You can come in 40 times with your friends; you will be spoken to and respected, but you won't be pushed into buying this and buying that. "You talk and advise, but the customer has to feel relaxed. I know that from going out shopping myself. I think the old-fashioned way will come back into business. People must feel comfortable about the way they are doing business. If people are hassled, they won't come back and buy," he says. The shops measured 3,000 square feet in November 1995 and now with the three stores in Gort, Loughrea and Portumna, there is over 50,000 square feet of showrooms. With everyone from first-time homeowners, to developers looking to furnish their properties, Mike says beds are their biggest seller. "Homely Bedding in Tuam has supplied us with top class beds for the last 12 years. They are a very good company." Not only do Finn's sell a large range of furniture, which is sourced from places as far afield as China, Romania and Holland, they also sell a lot of paint and flooring. Mike says, "Paint is very big in the Gort store and the Colourtrend paint has really taken off in the last couple of years. "Colourtrend paint is an upmarket brand from Dulux and more and more interior designers are using these colours because they are easier to work with and the colours are exactly what people want," he explains. "We find most people who come in to furnish new home end up getting their home painted with us as well. We arrange painters to do it. Brian Lynch from Gort is a top class painter. We have the connections for people to get their house painted". Finn's Furniture can also arrange for people to get their solid, semi-solid or laminated flooring fitted, and they even provide an upholstery service in Loughrea. A good delivery service is all part of the complete package. "When we say we will deliver tomorrow, it will be tomorrow. We know how busy people's lives are these days, so we work off a tight schedule; we give people two days' notice or a week if they are far away. Sometimes we do out-of-hours deliveries," says Mike. Finn's Furniture have made deliveries to every county in Ireland, and they have even sent furniture to England and Belgium. "Family is very important to us because we link each shop with one another. We can do business in one shop and link up with another," Mike says. The shops are open from 9.30pm to 6pm, with out-of-hours deliveries and services. Finn's Furniture continues to flourish under the good management and friendly attitude of the Finn family. "That's how I know we are doing something right - by not pressurising people," says Mike. The staff of the stores have given years of hard work and Mike said none of the success would have been possible without them. In thanking them for their great work, he also thanked all the customers, old and new. It is obviously a successful formula that works and as Mike himself puts it; "If it's not broken, why fix it?" |
