Monday saw the business community launch its 'yes' campaign for the Lisbon referendum under the umbrella of the Irish Alliance for Europe. The group is made up of business people including Martin Naughton of Glen Dimplex Group, former EU Commissioner Peter Sutherland, Maurice Pratt of C&C Group, Paul Rellis of Microsoft Ireland, Declan Collier of the DAA, William Slattery of State Street Corporation, Padraic White of the IDA and Pat Crotty of the SFA. The business alliance represents over 30 of Ireland's leading business organisations that have come together to call for a 'yes' vote to the Lisbon Treaty on Thursday 12 June. Pat Cox, former President of the European Parliament and spokesperson for the Irish Alliance attended the launch and introduced the speakers representing the Business Alliance. According to the alliance, the Treaty presents Ireland with a unique opportunity to complete the European Single Market project. The various companies involved believe a yes vote will ensure that Ireland continues to be an extremely attractive place for foreign companies to set up businesses with our well educated work force, favourable tax rates and ready access to the largest single market in the world. |
