The American Chamber of Commerce Western Region has welcomed the announcement by the Minister for Transport, Martin Cullen, that the commencement of work on the N18 Ennis to Galway, Atlantic Road Corridor, under the National Development Plan will be accelerated.
This work will now commence in early 2008. Commenting on the announcement, Gerry Kilcommins, Chairman, American Chamber of Commerce, Western Region and Vice President of Operations and General Manager of the Medtronic Galway site said, "Enhancements to the road infrastructure in the West, such as the recent opening of the Ennis By-pass increasing access to Shannon Airport and the moving forward of the N26 scheme (Phase Two) in Mayo to compulsory purchase order stage, are crucial in terms of maintaining current US multinational investments in the region and attracting new investments." Mr Kilcommins added, "In today's highly competitive global marketplace, the availability of quality infrastructure to facilitate easy access and movement of people and goods is a key necessity for the continued success of the West of Ireland as a vibrant and progressive business and commercial location for US investment." There are 60 US multinationals in the West region who employ over 10,000 people and indirectly support 30,000 jobs in Irish industry. |
