B&Q, Europe's leading home and garden improvement retailer, opened its eighth Irish store last Thursday, 25 October, in Galway West Retail Park, Knocknacarra.

The new 60,000 square foot store and garden centre was officially opened by City Mayor, Cllr Tom Costello. The newest addition to the retail park has generated 100 new jobs in Galway with all positions filled by local people.

In B&Q Galway, customers will find a new kind of home improvement store and will be spoilt for choice, with over 35,000 products available in the new store as well as dedicated kitchen and bathroom displays and extensive lights, flooring, paint and garden ranges. Trade customers are also not forgotten; B&Q offers a range of services, from fax and collect, to direct to site delivery.

B&Q's seven other stores in Ireland in Dublin at Liffey Valley, Tallaght and Swords, Cork, Limerick, Athlone and Naas, have been very successful, trading ahead of expectations. With the opening of the Galway store last week, B&Q now employs over 900 people in Ireland.

Speaking at the opening of the new store, Alan Treacy, Store Manager B&Q Galway said, "We're delighted to be officially opening B&Q Galway today, our first store in the West of Ireland. We have an enthusiastic, hardworking team and we look forward to welcoming new customers and introducing Galway to the B&Q DIY shopping experience.

"The performance of our other stores clearly indicates strong demand in the Irish market for the comprehensive range of DIY goods, garden products and the unique professional service that is provided by in-store B&Q staff."
