SeaFest, Ireland’s national marine festival, will take place again this year in Galway from 29 June – 2 July, with a number of marine business events scheduled over Thursday 29 and Friday 30 June.
Together, the business events of SeaFest provide a unique opportunity for Ireland’s marine sector to be brought to national attention, and for those involved in the industry, regardless of sector, to convene and share ideas for the future growth and sustainability of Ireland’s marine economy. The events will feature highly regarded international and national speakers, who will inspire attendees and provoke discussions on how we can innovate for Ireland’s marine future.
Digital Ocean – Ireland’s Marine Engineering & Technology Conference – 29 June
The Digital Ocean Conference will take place in the Bailey Allen Hall, NUI Galway, on 29 June. The event is being organised by IDA Ireland, Enterprise Ireland, Irish Maritime Development Office, Marine Institute, the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland and Science Foundation Ireland.
Featuring leading international companies together with national experts from across Ireland’s multinational and SME sectors, the conference will discuss how new forms of digital innovation can drive growth and efficiencies in established and emerging marine sectors. It will identify key areas of market opportunity as companies innovate into the future and provide an unmissable networking opportunity for companies developing products and services for global marine sectors such as energy, transport, fisheries, observation, safety and security.
BIM National Seafood Conference 2017 – 29 June
“Winning in a Changing Environment” is Bord Iascaigh Mhara’s 2017 national seafood conference. This one-day seafood industry meeting takes place on 29 June in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Galway. A must-attend event for Ireland’s seafood professionals, this conference will offer a speaker line-up of leading seafood industry experts and commentators, a dynamic conference programme with a strong focus on sustainability, the latest thinking and policies shaping Ireland’s opportunity in the global seafood industry and a range of practical workshops where knowledge will be converted into real action for industry.
Marine Trade Show – 29 & 30 June
A Marine Trade Show will take place in a purpose built marquee on the grounds of NUI Galway on both Thursday 29 and Friday 30 June to run in parallel with the Digital Ocean Conference and Our Ocean Wealth Summit events.
The Marine Trade Show will provide a unique opportunity for companies from across the marine economy to showcase their products and services to an audience of 600+ attendees across two days at the Digital Ocean Conference and Our Ocean Wealth Summit.
Marine Industry Awards – 29 June
Now in its third year, the Marine Industry Awards is the premier event in Ireland to showcase on a national scale the excellence and innovation within Ireland’s marine sector.
Taking place as a significant event during the SeaFest, the awards ceremony on Thursday 29 June at the Radisson Blu Galway, offers a unique opportunity to celebrate industry excellence and network with its most distinguished figures and leading organisations.
The awards shortlist has recently been announced across a number of award categories in areas from marine renewable energy, seafood, shipping, to marine technology, research, safety and more. The event promises to be an excellent networking opportunity with an expected attendance of over 400 at the black-tie gala dinner.
Our Ocean Wealth Summit – 30 June
Business activities will culminate with the Our Ocean Wealth Summit, taking place in the Bailey Allen Hall, NUI Galway on 30th June. Now in its fourth year, the Summit will bring together world renowned speakers, industry experts, business development agencies and the Irish business and marine research communities for focused discussions on this year’s theme of ‘Rethinking Boundaries and Innovation for a Sustainable Marine Economy’.
Key speakers include Tom Kelley of award-winning global design and development firm, IDEO, who will inspire business leaders to engage in creative thinking and challenge perspectives to encourage new ideas and approaches on how Ireland can continue to transform its marine industry.
Tom Kelley will be joined by a host of other national and international thought leaders and industry experts including leading economist Dan O’Brien, Miguel Marques, Partner, PwC Portugal and Economist of the Sea; Terry Garcia, former VP National Geographic and CEO, Exploration Ventures; Andrew McDowell, VP, European Investment Bank; Wendy-Watson Wright, CEO, Ocean Frontier Institute Canada, and many more.
The Our Ocean Wealth Summit will include a number of sessions all focused on responding to change, rethinking boundaries and driving innovation for a sustainable marine economy – Progress on Harnessing Our Ocean Wealth, providing an update on Ireland’s integrated national marine strategy; The Drive for Innovation, highlighting the global context in which efforts to transform Ireland’s marine industry must take place; Smarter and Better, examining how existing established economic sectors, such as the food sector, can turn its attention to the sea; The Coastal Economy, taking a focused look at the Irish economy, using case studies to examine how Ireland can innovate in marine tourism and leisure; and finally Our Rapidly Changing Oceans, bringing the day’s discussion full circle to reflect on the ways in which innovation is possible to drive further growth in our marine economy.
