Bow Waves Sailing and Powerboat School has launched its winter training programme. The programmes features essential courses including STCW’95 Basic Safety Training, which is needed by anyone seeking to gain employment on cruise ships, ferries, cargo ships and offshore support vessels that work with offshore wind and gas.
Later this winter Bow Waves will launch a fulltime commercial skipper course, based over 18 weeks, which will get people who want to gain access to the offshore oil and gas and super yacht industry. It is the first of its kind in Ireland, giving participants options to get a 200 Ton Commercial Skippers Ticket in both sail and power vessels. This course will equip the participant with the qualifications and knowledge to start a career in this industry.
The course will cover the skills to operate sail and motor vessels proficiently; Sea Survival, Marine Radio, First Aid, Navigation, Collision Regulations, powerboat operations, anchoring, man overboard manoeuvres, fire fighting, diesel engine operations, Radar operations and mileage to archive the required experience before doing your exams.
Qualifications received are issued under the United Nations, Marine Coastguard Agency, Royal Yachting Association, Department of Transport and the Irish Sailing Association. To attend the course some experience is desirable but not mandatory. If you have a lot of experience it is possible to attend one of Bow Waves’ more advanced modules. If you are unsure what to do you can contact Bow Waves and ask for a Maritime Career advisor on 091-560560 and receive advice, direction and a course prospectus.
