An understrength NUI Galway hurlers had a day to forget in Gorey as Wexford tore them asunder to reach the Walsh Cup semi-final.
After a decent first quarter where the Students only trailed by three points, the home side cut loose before the break as goalks from Mark Fanning and Ian Byrne gave them a 2-15 to 0-4 lead at the break.
Despite some good form from Rahoon/Newcastle’s John Hanbury and Cormac Diviney, NUIG were routed after the restart and again only managed four points in 30 minutes.
Further goals from Kevin Foley and Padge Doran gave Liam Dunne’s side easy passage into the last four where they will face the winners of UCD and Dublin.
