Galway based ska band Big Jelly play the main stage at Monroe’s Live for the launch of ‘Midnight Jam’ on Friday, 26 June.
‘Midnight Jam’ is a new night of music at Monroe’s Live which will showcase the finest of local and national and musicians at midnight on the last Friday of every month. The night is the brainchild of Donal Gibbons who plays with the Rolling Tav Revue.
To launch the new night, nine piece ska band Big Jelly kick off the proceedings with their ska reggae. The instrumental group, who formed in 2014, will play early Jamaican roots ska from artists such as Toots and the Maytals, Skatalites, Prince Buster as well as classics from Bob Marlay and Lee Scratch Perry. The band’s lush five piece brass section ensures an energetic show and a unique slice of Jamaican reggae ska.
The band comprises several members from well known local acts such as Timbertramps, My Fellow Sponges and Mikey and the Scallywags. Band members include Pauli Smalls, baritone horn, Dan Guinane, trumpet, Shane O’Malley, bass trombone, Geoff Ward, soprano sax, Bill Wright, tenor sax, Bri Gosker, guitar, Anna Mullarkey, keys, Dave Shaughnessy, drums and Sam Wright, bass guitar.
