Mike Arrigan grew up in Renmore Park in the early 70’s where his love for music began. His first drum kit was set up in the box room of the Arrigan family home. It was made of cardboard boxes, bits of timber and basins.
From that base Mike became the founder member of many great bands throughout his musical career. He graduated in 1985 with a Diploma in Music and a year later his deep passion and love of music guided Mike, along with his wife Jackie, to pack their bags and move to America to meet his icons, the people who inspired him.He was determined to learn from the best in the business and while in America he studied under Gary Chaffee who was a world renowned teacher of musical theory.
When Mike and Jackie returned to Galway they set up The Galway Contemporary School of Music. Mike was involved in forming the now world famous Macnas Drummers. He entered the Irish charts on two occasions, with The Fuze and with his Contemporary School of Music. Mike continued his passion and his unique way of teaching right up to the day he passed away.
This new show tells the story of Mike’s musical life as a drummer, musician and mentor. The show will take you through the music of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and 00’s performed by Galway’s best musicians and bands.
This is a high energy musical show that will appeal to every audience with emphasis on rhythmic percussion, narrated by Paraic Breathnach.
